Vista Solar created a zero-down lease proposal that made the project cash-flow positive from day one. SunPower high-efficiency solar panels allowed the system’s total output to eliminate the church’s electric bill. As of December 2012, a combined 67.9 kW solar system across three rooftops began generating clean solar energy. Over the term of the operating lease, the church expects to save more than $24,000, and over the guaranteed 25-year lifetime of the system, Abundant Life is projected to save over $600,000. With the expert help of Vista Solar, the leadership of Abundant Life has enhanced the church’s long-term financial health and freed funds that they can re-dedicate to the service of their congregation and their faith.
PARTNERING WITH AN HONEST SOLAR PROVIDER
After years of watching utility costs progressively absorb more church funds, church board members decided to explore solutions. The church reviewed roughly a dozen solar providers before narrowing down to two companies. In the end, Abundant Life selected Vista Solar because they offered a zero-down lease, and Vista Solar was extra considerate of all of the board’s questions and concerns. This added attention included giving a tour of a finished solar system and discussing the project details with a construction expert in the congregation. The overall attention, honesty, and transparency made it clear that Vista Solar was a company they could trust. With that, they selected Vista Solar to bring solar power to the church.
MEETING ENERGY GOALS WITH SUNPOWER
Charged with the task of eliminating the church’s energy bill, Vista Solar constructed solar systems on three different roofs with three different pitches. When the total production was only reaching 74% of the production goals, Vista Solar incorporated high-efficiency SunPower panels to bridge the gap. With SunPower high-efficiency solar panels, Vista Solar offset 100% of the church’s electricity needs and effectively eliminated the electric bill. Using SunPower solar panels also allowed Vista Solar to achieve these goals with fewer panels, thereby requiring less rooftop space. The church leaders also appreciated the superior esthetics of the SunPower solar panels, which are prominently displayed on the sanctuary.
ELIMINATING LONG-TERM COSTS
Vista Solar maintained a safe and non-disruptive worksite, which was especially important since the church has a school on-site. The installation went so smoothly that “half the time, we didn’t even know they were there,” said Board Member Bob Mincy. Vista Solar completed the solar project on-time and on-budget in December 2012. Cash-flow positive from day one, the church is expecting to save $24,000 over the term of their lease. Overall, the church has been extremely pleased by the process of going solar. “I’ve got nothing but high marks for the Vista Solar staff. From the installers to the top guys who made the presentation, they were all very professional,” said Mincy. With solar power, Abundant Life church has removed a budget line item from the cost category and created a hedge against unpredictable utility costs not just for today, but for many years to come.
