Since 1982 DCL has been providing supply chain solutions for Fortune 100 and start-up companies in the software, technology, electronics, healthcare, and consumer goods industries. Experts at creating efficiencies that drive savings, the Team at DCL was quick to see the potential for generating significant cost controls with the installation of solar. In 2007, DCL became the first company in Fremont, CA to install a commercial solar system. After watching the production of their first 75 kW solar installation for a year and verifying the reliability of the electric bill savings, DCL soon added another 75 kW of solar in order to completely offset their energy bills. As DCL grew and with them their electricity bills, the need for more solar became apparent.
In order to maximize the usefulness of the remaining roof space at DCL, Vista Solar designed a system that employs the Panel Claw ballasted racking solution. This versatile, minimally attached, racking system provided Vista with the flexibility it needed to work around the existing solar systems, dozens of skylights and the State mandated fire walkway requirements with the added benefit of closely matching the aesthetics of the previous installations. In the end, Vista Solar was able to install an additional 137 kW on the DCL distribution facility rooftop – taking the combined DCL solar system to nearly 300 kW.
DCL is now offsetting over three-quarters of their electricity bill and saving an additional $49,000 per year. In addition to dramatically offsetting operating costs within the company, the continued investment in solar demonstrates DCL’s commitment to their Green Initiative – to set an example that promotes environmental stewardship within the industrial manufacturing industries and hopefully inspire others to join DCL in becoming a Green Business.
