First World Asian Trading has been a family-owned and operated business for over 30 years. With long-term goals of financial sustainability in mind, First World reached out to Vista Solar in early 2014 to explore adding solar to their 110,000 square foot facility. Vista Solar was well known to First World as an expert in working with food distributors and their specific electric rates and energy consumption patterns.
Designed for Payback
The solar system was designed and installed by Vista Solar, and is expected to offset the company’s electric bill by 99 percent, saving over $80,000 in the first year alone, with an estimated 25 year savings of over $2.7 million. The system is expected to pay back in 3.5 years and generate over 400,400 kilowatt hours of clean energy each year. 70% of the cost of the system was subsidized through incentives.
Timing and Logistics
Vista Solar overcame several site challenges to complete the installation within a tight time frame. Simple logistics such as equipment deliveries and staging required detailed pre-planning and orchestration due to lack of space on both the roof and road surrounding the building.
“This installation required extreme logistical preparation,” says Nate Villarreal, Construction Manager for Vista Solar. “On these types of projects, experience is your best friend – we knew what to prep for and how, so that we were able to stick to budget and timeline without disrupting the customer’s business.”
