Environmental Benefits

Here are just a few examples of how installing a residential solar system helps benefit our environment…

  • Drastically Cuts CO2 Emissions

From an environmental perspective, both the amount and environmental impact of energy use are important. While some emissions occur naturally when a fossil fuel is burned and can be cleaned, the carbon in these fuels cannot, and is released most often as CO2. These CO2 emissions have recently been implicated by an intergovernmental panel on climate change as a major contributor to global warming.

For every 2kWh of electricity generated by a residential solar system, 1.14lbs of CO2 emissions are avoided. That means a 3kW residential solar system could offset 8,550lbs of CO2 for each year of its operation.

  • Protects The Forests That Protect Our Air

Our forests are our greatest aids in the fight against global climate change. The trees and plant life in our forests filter the air we breathe. It takes one fully-grown tree to filter each 330lbs of CO2 we generate. Translation, you would have to plant 863 fully-grown trees per year, for 20 years, to match the savings in CO2 emissions that installing a 100kW solar system would provide.

  • Lowers Dependence On Foreign Oil

Not only are the emissions from burning fossil fuels harmful to our health and environment, but they are also a rapidly dwindling resource. The limited availability of fossil fuels and ever growing demand has created a volatile market raising end-user transportation and energy costs through the roof. Choosing to get your energy from a clean, unlimited, source, such as the sun, helps to eliminate our dependence on foreign oil. It takes 1 gallon of fuel to generate each 19.5kWh of energy consumed. Installing a 3kW solar system could prevent the consumption of 769 gallons of fuel per year.
